Junior women to make membership pitch

The Junior Women's Club of Fairfield will hold a membership-drive meeting on Wednesday evening, April 8, for women interested in community service and volunteerism.
The meeting is set at 7:30 p.m. at the Burr Homestead, 739 Old Post Road, and potential members will be able to meet current JWC members, hear about the group's philanthropic activities and meet some of the beneficiaries of its charitable giving, the group said.
The JWC is best know for its signature fundraisier -- A Visit to Santa's House -- in which the club transforms the Burr Homestead into a festive, short-term residence for Santa and Mrs. Claus. It also sponsors an annual touch-a-truck event and adopts projects to serve area hospitals and military troops, the club said.
The April 8 event will include a wine tasting and olive-oil tasting.
The meeting is free and open to all women. The club encouraged attendees to bring a cleaning product for donation to the Connecticut Food Bank.
