Katherine (Kitty) S. Virgalla, 81, of Fairfield, died Jan. 1, 2011, in St. Joseph's Manor, Trumbull.

The daughter of the late Joseph A. and Minnie S. Virgalla, she was a lifelong resident of Fairfield and a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School. While at Ludlowe, she served as class secretary, and lettered in tennis and field hockey. Following graduation, she was secretary for the reunion committee.

During her lifetime, she was a secretary in the Fairfield first selectman's office, executive secretary for City Savings Bank, Hubbell Electric, and then Stauffer Chemical, which later became Rohne-Poulenc.

She was a bowler in various leagues at Circle Lanes and was active in St. Ann's Church in Bridgeport, as well as the Fairfield Senior Center.

Survivors include her nieces, Carol Langer of Trumbull, Rose Marie Helwig of Orange, Susan MacDonald of Hanover, Mass., Catherine Washburn of Sandy Hook and Patricia Virgalla of Slocum, Al.; her nephews, Robert Virgalla of Newtown, William Virgalla of Ocala, Fla., James Virgalla of St. Augustine, Fla., Joseph Virgalla of St. Augustine, Fla., Paul Ruskay of Trumbull, and John Virgalla of Oxford; a sister-in-law, Barbara Virgalla of Milford; and 17 grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Ruskay, and brother, Joseph (Bud) Virgalla.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
