It wasn’t Whoville, but children filled with holiday cheer descended on the Fairfield Public Library last week to hear “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” — and then learned to love the holiday’s spirit.

Children’s Librarian Cindy Barich dressed as Dr. Seuss’ grouchy character, with “a heart two sizes too small,” reading from the holiday classic.

“Cindyb,” as she’s known among young library patrons, even employed the talents of two children from the group, Grace Bartlett, 8, to play Max the Dog, and Samantha Petiprin, 8, to play Cindy Lou Who.

Barich gave a spirited rendition of the rhyming tale, using a Grinch-like gruff voice, a bit of prancing and amusing faces to the delight of the gathering. The performance was to be Barich’s final one at the library as she plans to bow out of her job Dec. 31.
