Louis J. Havanich Sr., 87, of Fairfield, wife of Elsie Rodek Havanich, died March 23, 2010, at St. Vincent's Medical Center.

Born in Bridgeport to the late John and Bertha Havanich, he was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the service, Havanich was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for more than 40 years. After his retirement, he remained interested in Sikorsky Aircraft, and contributed to the New England Air Museum. He worked on the flying boat restoration (VS44).

A devout Catholic, Havanich was a member of Holy Cross Church.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Elsie, he is survived by his son, Louis Havanich Jr. and his long-time companion, Marilyn Roger of Shelton; his grandson, U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Brian Havanich of 29 Palms, Calif.; two sisters, Anna Workman of Craydon, Pa., and Gertrude Ehrenkaufer of Orange City, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Ann Havanich; and two sisters, (his twin) Elsie Conboy and Helen Zemola.

Funeral services will take placetoday, March 26, at 9:15 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, and 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Fairfield. Interment will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. The family greeted friends in the funeral home on Thursday.
