Only 10 points separated the Staples girls volleyball team from Fairfield Warde Wednesday.

Although host Staples won 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 27-25) in the season-opener for both teams, the match was close and could have gone either way.

Warde had a chance to win the first and third games, but in the end, the Lady Wreckers made the plays when they had to and came away with the victory.

Senior tri-captains Joosje Grevers (seven kills, two aces, three blocks, six digs) and Anna Link (four kills, five digs, four aces) led Staples.

The Lady Mustangs were led by seniors Rebecca Stern (two service points, one ace, 18 assists, five digs) and Kelsey Elmendorf (eight service points, nine kills, three digs).
