In the interest of pedestrian safety in downtown Fairfield, it is worth noting that the fairly active `T' intersection of Unquowa Place and Post Road does not have "walk/don't walk" signs for foot traffic on Post Road to cross Unquowa Place.

The one traffic signal is perched high above the center of the intersection, well out of the peripheral vision of the average person.

While installing a pedestrian signal might not be perceived as high on the pecking order of town life, the argument can be made in the quality-of-life department.

Other nearby intersections have these pedestrian-friendly mechanisms.

Thanks for your newspaper's role in raising awareness of such an elemental safety issue.
