My daughter and her fiance reserved the Penfield Pavilion for their July 20 wedding. They are Fairfield University graduates, and this was their dream venue. The pavilion was damaged in Superstorm Sandy. After several caveats, the town called to say that the pavilion repair work is scheduled to only start in July and that the wedding reception could not take place there. They refunded our deposit.

We lived through Sandy in our home on Long Island and, in the interim, moved to central New Jersey. In the New Jersey news are numerous references to shoreline mayors who are hard at work restoring boardwalks and other public attractions. I therefore am amazed at the lack of fervor following the damage on Fairfield Beach. Having been there over several summers, it is an obviously popular place and one can hardly find a parking place in the summer and there are beach lovers there all the time.

Wedo not have the standing of Fairfield residents, and we realize that our inconvenience cannot be compared to people who have lost their homes or businesses. But what is the reason for the delay?
