As a long-time resident of Fairfield, I believe the town needs to focus on budget control and financial responsibility. While many of the services provided by the town, such as education, are important to our social fabric, we have to find a better way to do things in a more economic and efficient manner.

Out-of-control spending will drive people from Fairfield, which is not what the citizens want or need. The current (proposed) budget calls for a 3.6 percent increase at a time when most family incomes and property values are declining.

The town should be able to react like the families that make up the citizenry and cut back.
