Hair Fairies, a chain of clinical salons devoted to lice removal, yesterday opened its newest location in The Galleria, 63 Unquowa Road.
The Los Angeles-based franchise, founded in 1999 by Los Angeles entrepreneur Maria Botham, has salons in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego, according to a Hair Fairies news release.
The 1,500-square-foot Fairfield venue now employs four workers and will offer six more new job opportunities with full benefits and a matching 401k plan. Its employees will be trained in the company's three-stage treatment process, the release states.
The process entails evaluating the stage of infestation, removing the active lice and eggs from the head and providing treatment to condition the scalp and discourage immediate re-infestation. The method is carried out based on scientific research and with all-natural, non-toxic shampoos, combs and rinses developed and produced in the company's laboratory in Riverside, Calif., the release states.
Hair Fairies charges $95 an hour for its lice removal services, with the average cost per visit costing about $200, Botham said.
Hair Fairies also provides its products and instructions for purchase online and free lice identification from an e-mailed photo. In addition, the company provides in-school examinations and information sessions. Most insurance companies approve at least partial payment of Hair Fairies treatments that also qualify for flexible spending accounts, the release states.
Hair Fairies has treated more than 50,000 clients and employs more than 50 full and part-time trained specialists, in addition to the 10 workers anticipated for the Fairfield location, the release states.
