The still-unfinished Fairfield Metro railroad station is not the only local depot with problems.

The passenger shelter on the eastbound platform late Monday was overflowing -- not with riders seeking refuge from the evening's showers -- but with litter and debris strewn across the floor and seating.

Newspapers, napkins, fast-food wrappers and bags, soda cans and cups ... even a pizza box perched carefully on the bench ... were scattered about the place.

Unsurprisingly, few passengers chose to wait for their trains in this uninviting setting, despite the chilly, wet weather.
