Fairfield Ludlowe lost a close wrestling match to Ridgefield 42-37. Ridgefield and Ludlowe battled hard and each won seven matches but Ridgefield earned seven pins to Ludlowe's six.

Last Saturday Ridgefield won the Ludlowe Invitational and Ludlowe took third. So this dual meet saw several rematches from the tournament. Ludlowe did very well in the light weights and in the middle also, but Ridgefield dominated the upper weights.

The match started at 112. Erick Kirchgasser jumped out to an early five-point lead with a takedown to a nearfall in the first period. He was very close to pin, but Matt Philbein would not give in. Philbin later rallied to make the score 8 -5 at the end of the second period. Both wrestlers were exhausted with seconds left in the match. Philbin scored an escape a takedown with a whip over to pin Kichgasser with 1 second left in the match. No one could know then but this is what made the difference in the match. A near pin for Ludlowe turned into a pin for Ridgefield.

At 119 Kyle Decrucicio avenged a pin by Jack Boscia in the Finals of the Ludlowe Tournament to pin Boscia in 3:32. At 125 there was another rematch from the Ludlowe Invitational, however this time Ludlowe's Henry Wales could not pin Ridgefield's Joe Voves but won by a major decision 12-0. Voves saved Ridgefield two points doing this, which also helped to secure the win for Ridgefield. At 130 Nick Catlin pinned John Dunke in 1:51 with a tight half nelson and wrist combo. This made the score 16-6 Ludlowe. At 135 John Pavain pinned Pete Clark in 1:03. The next two matches were a big surprise for Ridgefield because Ludlowe's Drue Hallee, who missed the Ludlowe Invitational due to injury, pinned the Ludlowe Tournament Champion in the first period. Hallee jumped out quick lead with a double leg takedown then scored a tight headlock as Sesto tried to get away for the pin.

At 145 Will Matson also won by pin against Nick Russo who placed 4th in the Invitational. Matson did not place because he did not make 145 and was at 152 in the tournament. Next, Mauricio Xocoy got a forfeit to make the score 34-12. At this point Ludlowe seemed in control of the match, a few more wins or a pin would all but clinch the match.

However Ridgefield won the next 4 weights by pin and one by forfeit to clinch the win. The experience of the Ridgefield upper weights was just too much for the inexperience of the Ludlowe wrestlers. The last match was a good win as Ben Batulanaon of Ludlowe repeated his decision over Chris Sovaca but this time the score was a close 6-3. Ludlowe head coach Nick Garoffolo was very pleased how his team wrestled, "We wrestled much better then we did in the tournament and gave Ridgefield all they could handle."
