FAIRFIELD — A homeless man was arrested after he was seen trying to break into a car last Friday in the Bear & Grill restaurant parking lot on Black Rock Turnpike, police said.
Joseph Miro, 53, was charged with criminal attempt at third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Callers reported to police that a man appeared to be trying to break into a gold-colored pickup truck parked in the lot. When officers arrived, they found Miro sitting in a car parked next to the truck. On the floor of his car, they said, was a rusty slim jim-type tool, that can be used to unlock car doors.
According to the report, Miro said he was simply trying to see if the tool would unlock a vehicle, but had no intention of trying to steal anything. Miro added that perhaps he should have tried it on his own car first, according to the report.
Miro was released on a promise to appear June 3 at state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
