FAIRFIELD — A 70-year-old East Rockaway, N.Y., man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to choke his longtime girlfriend.
James Cannet was charged with second-degree strangulation, second-degree threatening, and second-degree breach of peace after an argument with his girlfriend of 35 years turned physical.
A guest in a neighboring room at the Seagrape Inn called police after he heard a man say, “I’m going to (expletive) kill you,” around 8 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, the 67-year-old victim had locked herself in the bathroom.
According to the police report, the couple was visiting the area for the weekend, and upon returning to their room after eating dinner, Cannet began questioning his girlfriend about an alleged affair. He then allegedly pushed her on the bed, ripped her shirt, put his hands around her neck and threatened her.
Cannet was released after posting a $25,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport Nov. 6.
