FAIRFIELD — A man who called police to report his new SUV had been stolen found himself taken into custody.

Richard Nagy, 73, who called to report that the 2016 Toyota Rav was taken from in front of his Center Street condo, was charged with an outstanding warrant from Westport for second-degree failure to appear on a sixth-degree larceny charge.

Nagy reported the stolen vehicle around 1 a.m. Friday, when he returned from a trip out of town. He said his son had just purchase the vehicle for him, and he had both sets of keys. According to the report, there were no records of the Toyota being repossessed.

Nagy was released on a $500 court-set bond for the failure to appear warrant, and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on June 27.
