Brian Marques, 22, of West Hartford, assaulted a police officer early Saturday outside the Seagrape bar on Reef Road.

According to the report, an officer saw a patron being escorted out of the bar take a swing at an employee. The officer intervened and was taking the patron to his patrol car when Marques ran out of the bar, shouting at the officer, police said. Marques was told to walk away, but instead followed the officer to the patrol cruiser, and directly approached the officer.

The officer said he pulled away and put out his hand to separate himself from Marques, who then bumped the officer's shoulder with his chest, according to the report. When the officer tried to take Marques into custody, he kept pulling away and tried to flee, and he also took a swing toward the officer's face, knocking his radio microphone off his shoulder, police said. The officer's hand was apparently injured in the scuffle, according to the report.

Marques broke free, and was later located on Fairfield Beach Road. Taken into custody, he was charged with assault on a police officer and interfering with an officer. He was released on a $5,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 22 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
