Daniel Aquino-Ramirez, 21, of Woodside Avenue, Bridgeport, was charged early Friday morning with assaulting his girlfriend.

He faces charges of third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and second-degree criminal mischief.

Aquino-Ramirez's girlfriend, who lives in Fairfield, came to headquarters just before 7 a.m. Friday and said that a verbal argument with Aquino-Ramirez turned physical, police said. She alleged that he placed both his hands around her neck and throat and pushed her away, according to the report. She also claimed that while in his car, he opened his door and slammed her cell phone to the ground. At that point, the report states, she grabbed her wallet and ran.

She had several red marks on her neck, according to the report, and her iPhone was broken and the screen cracked.

Aquino-Ramirez was detained at his home by Bridgeport police until Fairfield officers arrived to take him into custody.

Aquino-Ramirez was held on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Monday in state Superior Court in Bridgeport.
