Claudio Zuniga, 30, of Grace Street, was charged with punching his live-in girlfriend in the head and face during an argument Sunday evening at their home.
Police said the woman also had bruises on her arms from where Zuniga grabbed her. He had a small cut on his hand, apparently caused when he grabbed her cell phone and smashed it so the girlfriend could not call police, according to the report.
During the dispute, Zuniga also punched his girlfriend on the top of her head and slapped her in the face, police said.
Zuniga was charged with third-degree assault, interfering with an emergency call, third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $1,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
