Man charged with car break-in, theft behind Southport restaurant
A 22-year-old Bridgeport man accused of breaking into a car parked behind Southport Brewing Co. on the Post Road late Sunday was charged with fourth-degree larceny.
Edwin Ortiz, of Seltsam Road, stole a pair of skis valued at $1,200 from an unlocked car and was apprehended by Bridgeport police on Chopsey Hill Road in Bridgeport early Monday, according to the report. Fairfield officers then went to Bridgeport to arrest him, and the skis were found in the car he was driving, police said.
Local police said three cars were broken into behind Southport Brewing Co. at the time and that an employee obtained a license plate number on the getaway car, which was spotted by Bridgeport officers.
The rear passenger windows on the other two cars were smashed and a purse, valued at $200, was stolen from one of them, according to police.
