Man charged with cashing bogus checks
A 50-year-old accused of cashing bogus checks at Patriot National Bank on Black Rock Turnpike last November was arrested Saturday night on a warrant charging him with sixth-degree larceny.
Robert Michael Kovatch, of Mayfair Road, was released on a promise to appear July 23 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Kovatch deposited two checks -- one for $240 and the other for $150 -- at the bank in late October and then withdrew the money before the bank knew the checks were bogus and locked the account, police said.
He was arrested after officers responded to a welfare check at his house, police said.
