Man charged with cell phone theft
A Bronx, N.Y., man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stole three Blackberry cell phones from BJ's Wholesale Club on Black Rock Turnpike.
The Fairfield store manager received a call from the manager of the discount chain's Stratford store, alerting him that a pair of men had just tried to steal three television sets there, police said. The same suspects had also stolen two TVs from the Stratford store last month, according to the manager.
Around 8 p.m., the Fairfield manager noticed two men matching the description of the Stratford suspects lingering by the Verizon kiosk. When he approached, the men separated and one ran from the store. The manager followed but was told by a witness that the suspect jumped into a burgundy SUV and drove away.
As the manager called police, the second man, later identified as Julio Pacheco, came out and started walking toward the parking lot, dropping one of the three cell phones, police said.
The phones were worth a total of $1,359. Pacheco was held in lieu of a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear July 6 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
