Man charged with shoplifting gum, toilet paper
Carlton Bailey, 56, of Bridgeport was charged with sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer for stealing gum and toilet paper from Super Stop & Shop, 760 Villa Ave, shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, police said.
He led police on a foot chase--after abandoning his cart with gum and a 24-pack of toilet paper -- before he was caught on Greenfield Street. During transport to police headquarters, he complained of chest pain and was subsequently taken by AMR Ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital.
The stolen items were valued at $197.
He was released on a promise to appear Aug. 29 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
