A Bridgeport man was arrested on a warrant Tuesday, charged with stalking and witness tampering.

Police said they received a call July 15 from a woman reporting that her ex-boyfriend, Leslie Monge -- arrested earlier that day in Stamford -- was stalking her.

She said after the arrest in Stamford, a protective order was issued against him on his release, barring him from contacting her. Instead, the woman told police, he came to her home in Bridgeport, destroyed some of her property and threatened to "get even" with her if she called police.

He left the Bridgeport home before police arrived and the woman decided to go to a friend's home in Fairfield, police said. When she got there, she heard a car outside and a horn beeping. She told police she looked outside and saw Monge in his car, driving away.

The woman told Fairfield police that she feared for her life. According to the police report, the woman had visible injuries from the Stamford incident.

Monge, 37, of Bunnell Street, was charged with second-degree stalking and tampering with a witness. He was held on a $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
