Man charged with stalking woman in Fairfield
A Bridgeport man has been charged with stalking a woman at her Fairfield workplace.
Dawer Gilani, 32, of Atlantic Street in Bridgeport, was arrested Wednesday on charges of first-degree criminal trespass and third-degree stalking.
He was taken into custody in the parking lot of the office building at 501 Kings Highway East -- which houses the central offices for the Fairfield public schools -- after being warned not to stalk the woman, who police said he had been harassing for several months. Police said the woman does not know Gilani at all.
In February, Gilani had allegedly approached a co-worker of the woman and asked if he could talk to her in private. The woman and the co-worker both told the suspect to stay away.
Gilani also is suspected of having left notes on the woman's vehicle and possibly followed her from the Fairfield Edge gym.
The woman last month reported the harassment to Fairfield police, and Gilani was warned to stay off the office property and refrain from trying to contact the woman.
On Wednesday, Gilani was again seen driving his green Dodge Stratus -- with Connecticut license plates, 742-XDV -- in the office building's parking lot. Police said he appeared to be looking for the victim or her vehicle.
Following his arrest, he was held on $50,000 bond and is expected to appear Thursday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
