Bruce Johnson, 43, of Madison Avenue, Bridgeport, was charged with sixth-degree larceny Saturday after police said he tried to steal a shopping cart full of merchandise from Super Stop & Shop, 760 Villa Ave.
Johnson put diapers, as well as Corona and Budweiser beer, in a cart and walked out without paying just before 1 p.m. Saturday, police said. When store security personnel approached and questioned him in the parking lot, they said Johnson ran toward Kings Highway East. Police located him nearby, but he told them he had been at the bank and was now running to his car.
He was released on a promise to appear May 17 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
