Man charged with strangling, assaulting woman in diner lot

An East Hartford man was charged with strangling and assaulting his female companion in the parking lot of the Athena Diner early Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to the diner at 3350 Post Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, where police said Julio Delarosa, 21, argued with his girlfriend and then grabbed her by the throat, causing her to strike the back of her head against the car. He then struck her in the face, police said.
The report states the woman had visible injuries
According to the victim, the fight began while the couple was at a club in Stamford, but police were not notified at that time.
Delarosa, who lives on Pine Street in East Hartford, was charged with third-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, breach of peace and violation of a protective order. He was held on a $500,000 bond and was scheduled to have appeared Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court.
