Man charged with threat to kill sister as he hunted for girlfriend
A Homeland Street man was charged on a warrant Wednesday with threatening to kill his sister if she didn't disclose the location of his girlfriend.
Subhan Sumra, 33, is also being investigated by Bridgeport police for beating up the girlfriend, according to police. Sumra's sister had helped move the girlfriend to a safe location, and when she wouldn't tell Sumra on June 10 where the girlfriend was, he threatened to kill her, according to the report.
When officers went to the Homeland Street address that Sumra shares with his sister, he was not on scene but called several times, and said "I have nothing to lose -- if I'm going back to jail, there's going to be a good reason for it."
Police confirmed that Sumra was recently released from jail.
Deputy Police Chief Chris Lyddy said the department took Sumra's threat seriously, and had been looking for him both in Fairfield and Bridgeport, checking the Homeland Street address on a daily basis. They found him hiding in the home around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to the report.
