Sean McGinn, 22, of Pheasant Ridge Road, Redding, was charged with sixth-degree larceny after trying to leave Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff with a cart filled with $221 worth of groceries that he hadn't paid for Monday evening, police said.
Store security officers saw McGinn walk past the cash registers with the cart, and when they approached, he fled the store and got into a car and drove away, police said. McGinn was contacted later and he agreed to come to police headquarters that night.
He told police he was shopping and realized he had forgotten his wallet in the car and was leaving the store to get his wallet. McGinn said when security approached him he panicked and ran.
McGinn was issued a misdemeanor summons and is scheduled to appear Oct. 19 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
