Thomas Golino, of 235 Nonopogue Drive, was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace around 9 p.m. Sunday after punching a man who reportedly lay unconscious on a Tunxis Hill sidewalk for an hour, according to police.

The fight allegedly took place outside Bill's Crossroads, 12 Tunxis Hill Road, and police said no one helped the victim or called 9-1-1. The victim himself reported the incident after regaining consciousness.

The complainant said the last thing he remembered before losing consciousness was walking out of the bar and seeing seven to 10 people smoking cigarettes. Golino allegedly punched him in the side of the head with a closed fist.

The victim, who did not have a cell phone, later said he initially asked the bartender to call police but was told the phone wasn't working. Authorities were not told about the incident until the victim reached home, more than an hour after he said he was knocked out.

Golino and the victim, a Fairfield resident, had apparently played a game of pool earlier in the night and Golino accused his opponent of being a "cheat," police said.

Police eventually located Golino at his home, where he allegedly admitted to assaulting the victim, according to police records.

He was released on a promise to appear Aug. 1 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
