A Stamford man found sleeping in his running car early Saturday morning was charged with driving under the influence.

A sergeant on patrol around 2:30 a.m. spotted the car on Grasmere Avenue. The car was in the travel portion of the road, its engine running and in drive. Daniel Olivia, 21, was in the driver's seat and had his foot on the brake, but his head was back and his eyes were closed, according to the report. It took several attempts to awaken him, and then the car started to roll. Olivia told police he thought he was in Stamford, according to the report.

His passenger was also asleep, police said.

Olivia, who lives on Van Buskirk Avenue in Stamford, failed field sobriety tests.

He was charged and released on a $100 bond, with a Brideport Superior Court date of Nov. 1.
