Fairfield Museum and History Center will present a members-only lecture, "Manifest Destiny and America's Civil Religion" at 4:15 Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the museum, 370 Beach Road.

Professor John Faragher of Yale University's history department will discuss the idea of manifest destiny as justification for the United States' expansion in the 19th century, according to a release from the museum. The lecture will focus on the Mexican-American War, Indian Removal and the growth and possible extension of slavery into the western territories.

The lecture will be held as part of a Teaching American History Project program held by Shelton, New Haven and Trumbull school districts.
