Mary Hollister Redgate, of Fairfield, wife of the late John Crawford "Bus" Redgate, died Sept. 14, 2010, in the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital.

Born July 24, 1909, in Shenandoah, Pa., she was the only child of Catherine Brennan and Frank Hollister. She moved to Bridgeport after her marriage in June 1932. She was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle in New York and taught many years in the Bridgeport public school system at Bassick High, Whittier and Blackham schools. She was a member and past president of the Robert Bellarmine Guild at Fairfield College Preparatory School and the Alumni Association of the College of New Rochelle.

After her retirement, she became an avid bridge player. She was a daily communicant at Our Lady of Assumption Church, which became her parish after moving to Fairfield.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: John Hollister and wife Nancy Wildes of Alexandria, Va.; William Thomas and his wife Ellen Shaughnessy, and Thomas Joseph and his wife Betsy Hemenway of Fairfield, and Iris Maennicke of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. She was also predeceased by an infant son; her third son Frank in 2006; a grandson, Thomas and her great-granddaughter, Grace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull.
