Southport Brewing Co., a microbrewery and restaurant business with locations in Fairfield's Southport section, Milford, Stamford and Branford, has earned three medals in the Beverage Tasting Institute's World Beer Championship.

Its Mambo Bock beer received a gold medal for garnering 90 points out of a possible 100 points, according to a news release. The institute described the beverage as having a "nice vibrancy and flavor and balance that will be great with any food," according to its website.

Its Connecticut Pale Ale, the company's first bottled beer, received a bronze medal for getting 90 points. It was noted as having "aromas of toasted nuts, tahini, and edamame with a supple, dry medium body and a tangy, very grain driven finish with leafy greens like hops and earth in support."

SBC's second bronze medal winner is the Big Chill, a winter warmer described as a "beer with deep copper cherry wood color. dry-yet-fruity, medium body with a tangy, caramelized nut finish. A nice food beer."
