James Millington has been re-elected chairman of the Republican Town Committee, the 87-member body that coordinates local GOP campaigns and sets local party policy.

Millington was unanimously chosen for another two-year term during a meeting of the committee April 7 at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, the committee said in a news release.

The RTC also re-elected Steve Elworthy as vice chairman and elected Patricia Lucas secretary.

The committee said Millington had fulfilled a pledge to broaden the GOP's appeal in town and increase the number of seats it holds on town boards and commissions, including a larger majority in the Representative Town Meeting.

In the release, Millington said the party in 2013 called for an end to "ever increasing" taxes, and its platform appealed to "the silent majority of residents.

He said a push for reforms has begun, but would not be completed until Republicans regain the first selectman's office. That is a job the GOP has not held since John Metsopoulos was ousted in 2001 after one term.

Democratic First Selectman Michael Tetreau's term expires in 2015.
