A 56-year-old Fairfield man reported missing by his family Sunday was found dead in New London, but the initial investigation indicates there was no foul play, police said.
Kelly Wright of Patrick Drive had traveled to Niantic the day before and then traveled by ferry to Montauk on Long Island to look at a boat, police said. Wright's wife told police that he called her about 3:15 p.m. Saturday after returning from Montauk and said he might go to one of the nearby casinos.
There was no further communication from Wright, according to the report, and he was reported missing to local police about 5 p.m. Sunday.
Fairfield police were able to track his Chevrolet Suburban, which had On-Star navigation technology, to the parking lot of a Clarion Inn on North Frontage Road in New London.
Wright was found about 7:30 p.m. slumped at the wheel of the vehicle, but apparently had been dead for several hours, according to the report.
He had a history of heart and kidney disease, police said, and there were no signs of foul play.
The incident remains under investigation.
