A restaurant chain with a flair for southwestern fare has chosen Fairfield as the latest site in its foray into the Northeast.

Moe's Southwest Grill, open for business as of Thursday at 2267 Black Rock Turnpike, features made-to-order burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, pulled pork, grilled chicken and steak -- even tofu is on the "customizable" menu. And there's no charge for the chips and salsa.

The Fairfield Moe's is the first of 13 restaurants that owner BCD of Connecticut LLC plans to open in Connecticut. The Atlanta-based restaurant group was a Gold Award winner of the 2008 Consumers Choice in Chains Award.

"It's lively, fresh, friendly and fast, which is ideal for locals with an active lifestyle," Bruce Steminsky, the local owner and operator, said in a statement.

Moe's Southwest Grill will be open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
