A front desk clerk at the Best Western motel, 100 Kings Highway Cutoff, was robbed at knifepoint Saturday night.

The clerk told police a man entered the hotel lobby around 9:30 p.m. and asked if a relative was staying at the hotel. The clerk said she checked, but did not find the person registered. At that point, the man took out his cell phone and made a phone call, and the clerk went back to counting the night's receipts. She said he then pulled out a knife, told her to step back and jumped over the counter, grabbing all the cash on the rear counter and then fled, according to the report.

A surveillance camera image of the suspect was released by police Tuesday. The man is described as black, about 5 feet, 5 inches, between 25 and 30 years old, wearing a gray wool hat and gray hooded sweatshirt and blue pants with stripes on the side.

The incident remains under investigation.
