Motorcyclist chased into Fairfield, crashes into restaurant
A man riding a stolen motorcycle crashed it into the wall of a Fairfield restaurant after a late-night chase Monday that began in Bridgeport, police said.
Darryl Irizarry, 26, of Stratford Avenue, Bridgeport, passed a car on the left and went through a stop sign on Iranistan and Wood avenues in Bridgeport, police said.
When Officer Jeff Long attempted to pull the motorcycle over, Irrizarry sped up and nearly hit a car on North Avenue, police said.
The suspect crashed the cycle into the Three Corners Restaurant on Brooklawn Avenue in Fairfield, and then fled on foot, Long wrote. Irrizarry waded into a brook attempting to elude capture by a police dog, but surrendered when the dog and its handler were waiting where the suspect got out of the water.
The motorcycle had been reported stolen from New Haven.
Irrizarry was charged with improper passing, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, breach of peace and interfering with an officer.
He was held overnight on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at Superior Court in Bridgeport.
