Muriel Sussman, 86, of Fairfield and Pompano Beach, Fla., died Aug. 18.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Cecelia Shewitz, and had been a longtime member of Congregation B'nai Israel. She was a past president of Women's American O.R.T., a volunteer at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, and a devoted homemaker for her loving family.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Sussman; her children, Eden Diamond and her husband Howard of Fairfield, and Jed Sussman and his wife Kelly of Pleasanton, Calif.; a sister, Eleanor Gutbezahl of Levittown, Pa.; her grandchildren, Tyler Sussman, Spencer Sussman, Kyle Diamond and his wife Kimberly, Courtney Goodale and her husband Alan; great-grandchildren, Braden, Chase and Michaela, and several nieces and nephews.

Services took place Sunday, Aug. 21, in Loyalty Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Read To Grow in Branford, CT. ( or to the American Diabetes Association. The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home handled arrangements.
