The Fairfield Woods Branch Library will hold NeedleMania, a symposium on knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, tailoring, weaving and other needle crafts, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the branch, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.

The keynote speaker will be Peggy Gaffney, author of over nine knitting books and more than 100 self-published knitting patterns. She will speak on the creation of patterns, how knitting books are written and all the steps involved. Her books and patterns will be available for purchase.

In addition, there will be demonstrations on knitting, crocheting, machine quilting, weaving, spinning and tailoring, and knitting experts will demonstrate how to block and finish a garment.

the event will also include a yarn swap, a discussion about needlework website Ravelry.com and instruction for children at least 10 years old.
