New Orleans roots band to play at StageOne
The Honey Island Swamp Band will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at Fairfield Theatre Co.'s Stage One, 70 Sanford St. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
The blues band was formed in 2005 when musicians Aaron Wilkinson, Chris Mule, Sam Price and Garland Paul met in San Francisco after evacuating New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The band has put out two albums: "Wishing Well," named "Best Blues Album" in 2009 by OffBeat Magazine, and "Good To You." The band has also been named "Best Roots Rock Artist" by OffBeat.
The band's music, which has been described as "Americana on the Bayou," draws from a variety of influences in roots music, including artists such as Lowell George and Little Feat, Jimmy Reed, Taj Mahal, Jerry Garcia and the legendary Dr. John.
