Music lovers from around the region turned out for the first performance of the Chamber Orchestra of Fairfield, a concert that also benefited a scholarship program for young Fairfield musicians.

The Aug. 8 performance at First Church Congregational raised more than $2,000 for the Emma Jane von Euler Music Scholarship at the High School Scholarship Foundation of Fairfield. The scholarship, established in Emma Jane von Euler’s memory by her family, is presented to a graduating senior at Fairfield Ludlowe and Fairfield Warde high schools who plan to continue music studies in college.

The orchestra was founded and conducted by Fairfield native Darren Ziller. The 27-piece orchestra in its inaugural concert performed Mozart Overture to Don Giovanni, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D Major, which featured flutist Adrianne Greenbaum.

First Selectman Michael Tetreau delivered opening remarks at the event.
