Newman's Own pledge helps WSHU raise $234K
Backed by a challenge grant from the Newman's Own Foundation and donations from listeners, WSHU Public Radio on June 21 raised nearly $234,000 -- one of the station's largest single-day fundraisers.
Newman's Own awarded the Fairfield station a $75,000 matching-funds grant and recommended WSHU find other institutional backers donations that could be matched 2 for 1, the station said in a news release.
About 865 listeners pledged nearly $84,000, according to the release.
Community partners who collectively matched the Newman's Own pledge included the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund, the Edgard and Geraldine Feder Foundation, the Bijou Theatre of Bridgeport, Netherby Advisors, Alec Baldwin Foundation, Lime Rock Park Race Track, Leadership Circle Member Challenge, Broadcast Society Member Challenge, Guilford Fund, and the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
The money raised will be used to pay for the NPR news and classical music that WSHU broadcasts.
