A University of Bridgeport nutritionist will talk about limiting foods that release sugar into the blood steam quickly and the importance of nutrients during two lectures sponsored by the Fairfield Public Library.

Barry S. Kendler's lecture, "New Yorker Nutrition," will be offered Tuesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. The same lecture will be given at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, on Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m.

The title of the presentation stems from the use of cartoons from the New Yorker magazine in Kendler's talk.

Advance registration is required because space is limited.

Kendler will discuss the importance of minimizing the consumption of foods whose sugar is absorbed quickly and maximizing the intake of foods that provide protein, vitamins and minerals. He also will explain why consuming adequate amounts of often-neglected nutrients is important.

Kendler is a nutrition professor at the University of Bridgeport Human Nutrition Institute and has been teaching there since 1992.
