Officer credited with saving stricken driver

FAIRFIELD — Police received several 911 calls Sunday from people reporting that elderly driver appeared to have suffered a serious medical problem and was slumped over the wheel of his car on Black Rock Turnpike.
The 92-year-old man had pulled his car over to the side of the road in front of 2068 Black Rock Turnpike around 3:50 p.m. and then appeared to collapse, according to the report.
The man, a Bridgeport resident who had been grocery shopping with his wife, was in full cardiac arrest when Police Officer Michael Paris arrived on the scene. The man was unconscious, not breathing and had no pulse, police said.
Paris used an automated external defibrillator to restore the man's heart beat, reviving the man before he was transported to an area hospital for further emergency care, police said.
The man, whose identity was not given, was "alive and in stable condition" at the hospital as of Monday. police said.
