Kristin Golia, the Osborn Hill School teacher vying to be named "Top Teacher'" by the TV talk show "Live! with Kelly" will appear today (Friday, May 18) on the broadcast of the nationally syndicated show.

A film crew was at Osborn Hill last week taping a feature on the third-grade teacher that will be aired during the show, according to Jessica Gerber, a parent and local Board of Education member who nominated her for the distinction.

The show airs at 9 a.m. New York's WABC-TV, Channel 7, and Hartford's WFSB-TV, Channel 3.

After the taped feature on Golia is shown, she will be brought on stage to talk with Kelly Ripa, the show's host, and Friday's guest co-host, pro football star Reggie Bush.

Golia will be the last of five finalists to appear on the show, which is hosting one finalist each day this week.

The winner, to be determined by online voting, will receive a 2013 Ford Fusion and his or her school will receive $25,000.

Golia was the teacher for Gerber's late son Teddy when he was battling cancer. In a letter to the show, Gerber said Golia went above and beyond her typical teaching responsibilities.

Golia "helped keep him in the loop -- sending him work as well as feedback and encouragement; sending emails from the class, and video messages," Gerber wrote.

Golia, whose last name at the time was Travis -- she has since married -- often visited Teddy at Yale-New Haven Hospital, bringing him books to read, a get-well video card from everyone at Osborn Hill School, and his report card.

After online voting, the winner will be announced on "Live With Kelly" next week.
