The Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department is offering a six-week course for first-time mothers, focusing on topics such as sleeping, feeding and creating a schedule.

The sessions are planned Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Oct. 25 and ending Dec. 6, the department said. The program will meet at the Parks and Recreation Department offices, 75 Mill Plain Road.

The class will be led by clinical social worker Debbie Portnay and school psychologist Jennifer Weinstein, and will include discussions on understanding a baby's temperament, developmental milestones and other topics, according to the release.

Cost for the course is $50. It will not meet Thursday, Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day.

The department said the group offers an opportunity for participants to meet other new mothers.

To register, visit and find course #3003. Registration should be under the baby's name and include its date of birth.
