Peter J. Smaldone

Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice Smaldone. He was an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame and St. John's University School of Law. He was a tax attorney and spent many years as tax director for Babcock and Wilcox Corp. in New York City. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran.
He enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball, and had been a member of St. Francis De Chantal Church in Wantagh, N.Y.
Survivors include five children, Carolanne Festa and her husband, Arthur, of Lancaster, Pa., Peter D. Smaldone and his wife, Marsha, of Melville, N.Y., Michael J. Smaldone and his wife, Theresa, of Fairfield, Nancy Holland of Dix Hills, N.Y., and Jamie B. Smaldone and his wife, Helen, of Fairfield; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Smaldone of Palm Harbor, Fla., and his identical twin, Paul Smaldone of Wantagh, N.Y.; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by an infant son, Daniel J. Smaldone, and a brother, Gerald Smaldone.
A private Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 8, in St. Pius X Church in Fairfield. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home in Fairfield is handling arrangements.
