Police: Man on drugs when he crashed pickup truck
FAIRFIELD — A 65-year-old Mill Plain Road man had oxycodone in his system when he crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole June 9, police said.
Joseph Mikulka turned himself in at police headquarters Wednesday morning and was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane.
According to police, Mikulka was driving on Walls Drive around 7:14 a.m. when he went off the road and hit the pole. A witness stopped at the traffic light said he saw the utility pole shaking and then saw smoke coming from the pickup truck’s engine compartment.
Mikulka was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for evaluation following the accident.
He was released after posting a $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport Aug. 29.
