Woman charged with clothes theft in Fairfield

Shari Hall, 31, of Newburgh, N.Y., was charged with larceny Tuesday following an alleged shoplifting incident at the Gap store, 2215 Black Rock Turnpike.

Police said security personnel at the store reportedly observed Hall enter at about 1 p.m. with a large black bag and then saw her place several items of merchandise in the bag.

The security personnel stopped her when she reportedly tried to leave without paying.

After police were called, officers said they found about $80 worth of merchandise from Gap in the bag. Another $150 worth of merchandise from the Old Navy store at 2215 Black Rock Turnpike was also found in the same bag, police said.

Hall was charged with two counts of sixth-degree larceny.

She was released on $500 bond, and scheduled to appear Oct. 18 in Bridgeport Superior Court.

Cops: Man tried to steal DVDs in Fairfield

David Ford, 51, of Bridgeport, was charged at about noon Tuesday after an alleged shoplifting incident at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff.

Police said security personnel at the store reportedly saw Ford try to leave the premises with more than $400 in merchandise -- mostly DVDs -- stuffed in a clear plastic Stop & Shop bag.

Ford was charged with sixth-degree larceny, and released on a written promise to appear Oct. 18 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
