Police: Bridgeport man drowned at Lake Hills Beach

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department is investigating a drowning that occurred at Lake Hills Beach Sunday morning.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., Fairfield Police received a 911 call for a missing swimmer at Lake Hills Beach, located off of Tahmore Dr, according to a press release.

The caller said that he and a friend had gone swimming but that his friend had not surfaced for approximately three minutes, police said.

Dive teams from the Fairfield Police and Fire Departments and the Bridgeport Police Department searched the water and tried to locate the swimmer, police said.

Around 12:45 p.m., crews recovered the victim’s body approximately 50 feet from the shore in approximately five-and-a-half feet of water, police said.

The victim, identified as Karlis Eltermanis, 35, of Bridgeport was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau and Office of the Medical Examiner.
